Emergency Food Security Program Extension

One-year extension, $12 million value

Northeast Hasakah Governorate is one of the areas most heavily affected by the conflict in Syria with many internally displaced persons (IDPs) there who are faced with the prospect of malnutrition. To combat this, IRD’s program funded by Food for Peace (FFP) will provide additional fortified flour and yeast to local bakeries, repair the main public bakery, and distribute immediate response rations (IRRs) to affected populations. Our distribution program aims to expand bread distribution to the underserved areas of Maabada, Jawadiyeh, Qahtaniyeh and Lamikiyah districts. IRD is the only organization providing wheat flour and yeast free of charge in these areas. Our work will build on the success of the program that ended in May, which exceeded its targets.
