In Mali, new agricultural practices are being implemented to adapt to climate change.
Recently the RIC4REC program, with support from their partner ICRISAT (International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics), launched a training program to help 3,000 farmers adapt their agricultural practices to climate change. Fifty local agricultural extension agents from 12 central Mali districts attended the training where they learned about climate smart agriculture (CSA) technologies and practices. They will apply what they learned to their farmer support visits in the upcoming rainy season.
CSA techniques allow farmers to maximize soil fertility and rainwater use and to transform degraded land into productive farm fields, while improving the environment.
