During my recent visit to our offices in Cambodia, I participated in the distribution of school kits in Kampong Chhnang Province.

The school kits provided by United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) were assembled by volunteers and sent to Cambodia from Salt Lake City, UT.

We implement a school feeding intervention, funded by USDA’s Food For Education program, in 132 schools in Kampong Chhnang Province, Cambodia. Through various activities we improve teacher attendance and performance, increase student attendance and participation, reduce short-term hunger, increase nutrition and hygiene knowledge, improve school WASH infrastructure, increase community awareness on the importance of education and strengthen local government capacity to support school feeding activities.

“Kampong Chhnang places in the bottom 4 of 24 provinces based on 3 indicators of nutrition for children under five: weight-for-age, weight-for-height and height-for-age.”

The program distributed 16,464 school kits to target primary level schools that are the neediest, located in rural areas and have less support from the government.
