Hussein Al-Ali, 30, and his family from Al-Bukamal, Deir ez-Zor, left home to Abu Fas Camp on 12 October 2017, but because of the poor conditions there, they decided to move to Mabrouka Camp on 27 February 2018. During the move, the family’s eldest son Ali, 6, was lost in a convoy of displaced persons leaving Abu Fas Camp.
Later, Hussein’s wife Fatima left Mabrouka to Al-Hol Camp, where Hussein joined her two months later. They never stopped looking for their son. In Al-Hol, Hussein and Fatema participated in psychosocial sessions supported by Blumont. At the first session, Hussein asked the Blumont team to help him find his missing son and, gathering information about Ali and coordinating with UNHCR and Camp Administration (CA), Blumont was able to find the child in Al-Saad Camp. After obtaining permission from the CA to move Ali, the Blumont Protection team made all necessary preparations for the Hussein to travel to Al-Saad and bring his son back.
While the loss of their son caused conflicts in the family and pushed the parents to the verge of divorce, the Blumont Protection team’s intervention helped the family reconcile and reunite.
Back with his family, Ali had these words for the Blumont team: “Thank you for bringing me to my family.”

Hussein and his family were helped as part of Blumont’s Camp Management for Iraqi Refugees in Al-Hol, Roj, and Newroz Camps program. This program provides management for these three camps, raising the standard of living and fulfilling basic human rights for the populations inside the camps by ensuring efficient and effective delivery of services and enhancing community-based protection and support for vulnerable camp refugees. It is funded by PRM.
