Blumont’s Community Mobilization Program (CMP) along with USAID’s Sindh Basic Education Program (SBEP) coordinated an inauguration ceremony in the Sukkur District of Sindh Province, Pakistan for the program’s sixth new high school.
Some 400 people celebrated the inauguration of the newly constructed Bedil Bekas High School, named for two great cultural figures who symbolize peace, love, learning and scholarship. The new school will secure access to education for over 500 students, and is the sixth school to be inaugurated this year. The project aims to increase and sustain student enrollment in primary, middle and secondary public schools in selected areas of Sindh, with a special focus on bringing back students who have dropped out of school. The goal is to build 106 new state of the art schools, with five already inaugurated earlier this year and 71 currently under construction.
The Sindh government’s Minister for Education and Literacy, Dr. Jam Mahtab Hussain Dahar, as well as the U.S. Consul General, Grace W. Shelton, were both in attendance at the ceremony, which focused strongly around the community. During the presentation, Dr. Jam Mahtab Hussain Dahar encouraged community members, teachers, parents and youth to contribute their part in bringing lasting, positive change to the educational canvas of Sindh Province.
