CMP Celebrates Pakistan Independence Day

Pakistan’s Independence Day, observed annually on August 14, is a national holiday in Pakistan. It commemorates the day when Pakistan achieved independence and was declared a sovereign nation in 1947.

Sindh Community Mobilization Program (CMP) celebrated Pakistan’s 70th Independence Day in Qamber Shahdadkot and Sukkur districts. As part of its school day activities, CMP teams gathered relevant stakeholders including policy makers, prominent political figures, district administration, students, teachers, parents, community members, school management committees and other government officials.

In Sukkur district, the event was organized at Government Girls High School, Arain. Khursheed Ahmed Shah, Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly of Pakistan, was the chief guest, and various known personalities from district government and the district Education and Literacy department along with representatives of Education Management Organizations also participated. More than 550 participants attended the event. A large number of representatives from print and electronic media covered the event, which began with a flag hoisting ceremony and  a tree planting by Mr. Shah. This was followed by singing of the National Anthem, cultural and national songs, and speeches by guests, students, the head teacher and the SMC chairman.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest said, “I am thankful to USAID and the Government of Sindh for their support to the education sector and the result is in front of us in the shape of such a nice building.”

The experience in Qamber Shahdadkot district was also a great one, and was the first time a joint event took place in collaboration with the district management. A sports gala, flag hoisting ceremony, school day and school cleaning activities were organized as part of the Independence Day celebrations. Deputy Commissioner Mr. Shahmeer Khan Bhutto, along with the district management team, kicked off the sports gala, and cash prizes worth PKR 100,000 were distributed among participating and winning teams. The Deputy Commissioner thanked CMP and applauded the notion of working together for a common cause. The district administration also set up a medical station and ensured security cover for the participants of the sports gala. A large number of community members and students attended the event.

Blumont’s Sindh Community Mobilization Program (CMP) supports the Government of Sindh’s education reform and USAID’s Sindh Basic Education Program (SBEP). CMP specifically focuses on 400 targeted schools by increasing community and private-sector involvement in education reform activities, improving child nutrition and supporting community and district government coordination for increased girls’ enrollment.
